Drawing kit to build your own CNC attachment kit for a lathe EDM 300 DS Rotwerk
make your DIY machine a fully functional CNC-controlled lathe. With an attachment kit for stepper motors for the X and Z axis of a Rotwerk EDM 300 DS, (also suitable for EDM 300 DR, Sieg SC2, Sieg C2 and similar machines).
You will receive a complete set of technical drawings to manufacture the attachment parts.
The attachment kit is designed for use with ball screws and stepper motors. A description and parts list of the additionally required motors, spindles and standard parts is part of the drawing set.
With the help of this drawing set, you will be able to manufacture the mechanical components of a CNC attachment set for your lathe yourself.
For manufacturing, all you need is a milling machine with approx. 250 mm travel. With the help of a Rotwerk EFM 200 DS or an EFM 150 DS, the attachment kit can be manufactured.
Raw material, standard parts, electrical components and NC control are not included in the scope of delivery, but can be obtained from us if required.
Just ask us.
Description of the attachment kit:
Ball screws are attached to the X- and Z-axis of the machine in such a way that the traverse movements can be executed in a controlled manner via stepper motors.
The attachment kit was developed in such a way that only 2 threaded holes need to be attached to the machine in the bed slide. Otherwise, the existing threaded holes in the machine are used to attach the attachment kit.
X-axis:
The attachment kit of the Z-axis is designed for a ball screw with a diameter of 12 mm, a pitch of 4 mm and a length of 200 mm.
The drive or motor mount is designed for a NEMA 17 stepper motor.
A bracket with a fixed bearing is attached to the rear part of the bed slide of the machine. To mount this bracket, 2 threaded holes are required in the bed slide of the machine. These could be manufactured however simply.
The feed nut is fastened to a flange part, which is connected with the cross slide. At the machine itself no extra work is necessary for this. It must be manufactured only a separate fastening nut to fix the flange.
A floating bearing is provided at the front part of the cross slide to support the ball screw. This floating bearing is attached to the existing threaded holes of the cross slide.
The top slide (longitudinal slide) is no longer required with this attachment kit and is replaced by its own tool holder block. This can then be equipped with a suitable quick-change tool holder so that tools can be changed quickly and easily.
The following attachment parts must thus be manufactured for the X axis:
- Motor mount (sheet metal bending part, 2 mm sheet steel or stainless steel sheet)
- Fixed bearing bracket (aluminum milled part)
- Flange part for feed nut (aluminum milled part)
- Loose bearing block (aluminum milled part)
- Nut block for flange part feed nut (aluminum, or steel -milled part)
- Tool holder block (aluminum -milled part)
As additional purchase parts are required:
- Stepper motor
- Coupling
- Ball screw with nut
- 2x angular contact ball bearing
- Row ball bearing
- Standard parts for mounting
Z-axis:
The Z-axis attachment kit is designed for a ball screw with a diameter of 16 mm, a pitch of 54 mm and a length of 600 mm.
The drive or motor mount is designed for a NEMA 23 stepper motor and is located on the left side of the machine.
A bracket with a fixed bearing is attached to the left part of the machine's bed slide. The existing threaded holes of the lead screw bearing are used to fasten the fixed bearing bracket.
The feed nut is fastened to a flange part, which is connected to the bed slide. Again, no extra work is required on the machine itself for this. The existing holes in the bed slide of the machine are used.
On the right side of the machine bed, a floating bearing is provided for supporting the ball screw. This floating bearing is attached to the existing threaded holes of the lead screw bearing. Again, no further work is required on the machine.
The following attachments are thus to be manufactured for the Z axis:
- Motor mount (aluminum milled part)
- Fixed bearing bracket (aluminum milled part)
- Flange part for feed nut (aluminum milled part)
- Loose bearing block (aluminum milled part)
As additional purchase parts are required:
- Stepper motor
- Coupling
- Ball screw with nut
- 2x angular contact ball bearing
- Row ball bearing
- Standard parts for mounting
Note:
When using other stepper motors or servo motors, the flange dimensions of the motor mounts can be slightly adjusted.
Depending on the controller used, reference switches may still be required. Appropriate mounting options are already provided on the conversion kit.
In order to operate the machine, appropriate motor drivers and NC controllers are also required.
For safe operation of the NC machine, an appropriate safety cover is also required.
Electronic circuit diagrams, safety cell, circuit diagrams, control structure are not included in the scope of delivery of the drawing set.
Bill of materials for add-on motors, controllers, electrical components are not included in the scope of delivery of the drawing set, as these can differ greatly depending on the controllers and controls used.
Safety instructions:
automatically operated machine tool must be secured accordingly. Here we recommend an appropriate safety cover that meets the safety requirements of the EU Machinery Directive.
The control and the motor drive must also be designed so that the requirements of the applicable directives are met. (Emergency stop function etc.)
Scope of supply:
- Drawing set for manufacturing the mechanical components
- Exploded views / assembly drawings of the mechanical components
- Parts lists of the mechanical components with required standard parts
